Melbourne Millions for Mumia Committee meeting
11 November 1999

Present: Alison [for Radical Women], George [for LRP], Singh [for Vic Deaths
in Custody Watch Committee], Craig [for Freedom Socialist Party] and
Chris R.

Apologies: Debbie, Guy and Donna.

1. March route: After discussion we decided:
€ rally at GPO at noon with megaphones
€ march at 12.15 pm
€ march route - up Bourke St, right into Swanston St, right in Collins St
€ rally, with a quality PA, outside the American Express Building at 233
Collins St

Alison will announce march time and route on LeftLink.
Alison will ask Left After Breakfast to announce and try to get an
interview. Craig is available to be interviewed and will be standing by.
Alison will e-mail 3CR with a request to alert listeners about the march
time and route.
Singh will announce march time and route on the SUWU show on 3CR.

2. Sound: George will contact Andrew about the PA and will speak to David G
if back up is necessary.

Alison will bring FSP megaphone. George will speak to David G about ISO
megaphone. George will speak to Manrico about his megaphone and will try to
borrow one from another source.

3. Media: Alison circulated the draft press release which was approved
Alison will fax media on 12/11/99 and phone media on 13/11/99. Alison will
be the media contact on the day.

Chris will aprroach Access TV to ensure that they attend. Singh will get a
superscope and will tape extracts for use on the prison show.

4. Photography: Committee agree to take photos of the rally to send to U.S.
Mumia Committees to increase impact of Melbourne rally. Alison will ask
Debbie. Singh will ask Catherine. The cost of the photos will be funded from
the bucket
collection.

5. Speakers:
Confirmed speakers are:
€ Judy McVey, CPSU activist
€ Debbie Brennan, for RW and FSP
€ Susan Duffy, for PLP
€ A speaker from Chilean Popular and Indigenous Network - Alison to contact
to confirm who.
€ A speaker from the VDICWC - Singh will confirm who

Richard Frankland is still a possibility. Debbie will continue to seek
confirmation right up until the last minute.

6. MCs and Police liaison. Craig is the MC and George will assist. George
will be police liaison.

7. Bucket collection. Alison will bring buckets and motivate and coordinate.

8. Publicity: Leaflets are available from the RMIT Student Union to collect.
Posters have been put up in Brunswick St, Fairfield. near Northlands, East
Brunswick, Coburg, Preston Market and Vic Market.
FSP will blanket the East Timor vigil on 12/11/99.

9. Petition: This will be re-drafted and directed to Judge William M. Yohn.
It will make clear that it is from Australia. It will include the call for
an evidentiary hearing. George will liaise with Andrew to update old
petition design. If difficult, he'll organise a cut and paste.

10. Banners: George will bring the Mumia Banner. Singh will bring the VDICWC
banner. Everyone to bring their own placards!

11. Organisers will assemble 11.45 at the GPO.

12. George will convene a meeting a couple of weeks after the rally via
e-mail. The meeting will evaluate the action and look at on-going organising
around Mumia's case.
